Hearing the whistling fee-o, fee-o (Whio) call of the male Blue Duck is one of the great experiences of being in the New Zealand bush and I will never forget my first sighting of a Blue Duck (Hymenolaimus malacorhynchos). The Blue Duck is an endemic species, which due to human impact is nationally endangered.
